The Breakfast that Keeps you Going...and Glowing.

Uncategorized May 03, 2019

In the western world we are told a lot of things about breakfast. "Its the most important meal of the day", or conversely, "It's best to skip breakfast and eat later in the day". Then we get further confused, "Should I go savoury for breakfast or keep it light and sweet?". So what's the real deal with this first meal of the day?

I think I can speak for us all when I reflect upon the standard breakfast of packaged sugary-cereal and milk, or a quick couple of slices of toast with Vegemite I grew up on. It seemed like whatever was convenient, easy, and somewhat tasty-enough to brighten the early hours of the morning would get me by. Well, I've got a new relationship with breakfast now, after hundreds of attempts and fails. And I may just be getting to something pretty good- so I wanted to share my findings with you and see how you go.

A TRUTH I've learned about food in general is that, there is no "One Size Fits All" with diet. IT DOES NOT EXIST. Despite all of the marketing and fad-diets, detox's and cleanses... we cannot avoid the fact that we are all different with unique digestive systems, and overall needs.

Some of us may feel really good skipping breakfast, however... that is DEFINITELY not the case for all of us. And its not a simple issue such as "controlling your hunger", when your body is asking for nourishment you need to honour that. Its all about connecting into a conversation with our bodies. It's also about having some good wholesome options to truly nourish your cells.

Something I've found extremely good for my body and many others I've worked with is starting the day with a Savoury breakfast, rich in minerals, healthy fats, and protein. It's a bit controversial to the muesli and dried fruit porridge or, cold berry smoothies... but absolutely worth giving a go. Often this type of breakfast works well for 'thin' body types that seems to be thinking a lot and doing a lot through the day.

When I eat a breakfast rich in healthy fats, minerals, and protein... I have access to so much more focus, clarity, and energy throughout my day. I'm also not needing to snack on nuts and dried fruit all morning.

When we start our day with sugars, healthy or unhealthy, we get a quick burst of energy that feels good and refreshing. We feel light and energetic. This is good at times, I've found it great when cleansing or detoxifying the body, however sometimes, at least for me, I'm looking for a more grounded and stable start to my day. To receive nourishment that will give me stamina and endurance for hours.

Fats and minerals in the morning also contribute to a more balanced metabolismas you are fueling off of long-sustaining nutrients. Thus meaning it can speed your metabolism up if its sluggish, or slow it down if its rapid. Sugars can play around with the equilibrium of our metabolisms and often create a craving for more sugar. Fats give us that feeling of, "Oh Ive had enough, Im ready to focus on life outside of food/my hunger".

So all that being said, here is a great mineral rich breakfast to start your day off with power. And it will only takes 5 minutes to cook! Remember it's not 1 size fits all and often it works well to work with different meals depending on what result you are looking to achieve.

P.S When you start your day of with fats and minerals, it contributes to softening and improving your skin and complexion (added bonus I guess haha)!
